Holy Spirit Parish was established in 1979 and initially met in the cafeteria of Greenwood Elementary School. From the eventual construction of the Butler building (affectionately known as the “Hay Barn”) to the building of the first church in 1993, Fr. Roger Miller, founding pastor, led Holy Spirit Parish through its early years. Fr. Miller retired in 1998; he died in 2005.
Fr. Michael Tierney was assigned as the second pastor of Holy Spirit Parish. Shortly thereafter, a planning process was initiated and eventually the decision was made to construct a new campus to accommodate the rapid growth of the parish. In April of 2005, the congregation broke ground for the present structure. The new church was dedicated in September 2006 by Bishop Robert Finn.
The tower that you see as you approach the building is intended to be a “beacon” drawing people to the Church, and to a relationship with our Lord. The gathering area (narthex) was planned to be large enough to accommodate the many activities that happen both before and after Mass.
The church proper (nave) seats 980 people. The weekday chapel serves as a prayer space for small groups as well as overflow seating at Christmas and Easter. Along with the office area, the multi-purpose room, meeting rooms, and classrooms, we have a building that is intended to house the many meetings, classes, and activities of a growing parish.
On April 1, 2011, the former church facility at 800 SW State Route 150 was purchased by Heart of Life Church.
Current pastor Fr. Joe Sharbel joined the parish in July 2021. The parish currently has about 1,700 families.
