Our Parish has two wonderful programs for our children to explore their faith; Children’s Faith Formation (CFP) and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). In addition, our Sacramental Preparation (SP) class is open to all 2 nd graders who wish to prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion.

Come join us! Register by clicking here for CFP and Sacramental Prep.

We offer the following programs for additional religious education. Our programs are tailored to a child’s learning style to draw them closer to Jesus.

Catechesis Of The Good Shepherd (CGS)

Kathy McKernan, 816-537-6990

Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is a unique Montessori based program that takes Jesus from a child’s head to their heart.  Classes are currently held on Wednesday evenings from 6 pm-7:30 pm. Three to twelve-year-old students learn in a spiritual environment called an Atrium. Visit www.cgsksmo.org for more information about this unique program.

Children’s Faith Formation Program (CFP)

Kathy McKernan, 816-537-6990

Children’s Faith Formation is much more than simply “teaching religion.” While each lesson provides the children with a comprehensive understanding of our Catholic faith, we believe it is just as important to learn how to live our faith and put our beliefs into action. Each week children will be challenged to put the Gospel into action. This important step will help the children to recognize that faith is not meant to be isolated or compartmentalized. Faith is meant to be lived. Classes are held on Wednesday evening from 6pm-7:30pm for grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade.

Sacramental Preparation Program (SP):

Kathy McKernan, 816-537-6990

This Program is designed to assist the Parents in the preparation of their children to receive the gifts of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Children attend classes September through early May. Children are of the age of seven or their 2nd grade year. Parents are invited to attend five Parent Gatherings to help aid them in their child’s spiritual growth. We also have two Parent/Child Workshops about Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Each is filled with activities for the Parent and Child to grow closer to Jesus during this journey.

First Reconciliation: The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated in November at a Children’s Reconciliation Service.

First Eucharist: The Sacrament of First Eucharist (First Communion) is celebrated during the Easter Season during scheduled Mass times. Families are given an opportunity to choose between six Mass times.

Children’s Liturgy Of The Word

Kathy McKernan, 816-537-6990

During our Sunday 10:30 Mass, school-age children are dismissed from Mass to participate in a separate Liturgy of the Word designed for them. The program is led by volunteers from the parish community. The team is always looking for more volunteers. If you would like to help, please call Kathy at the Parish Office.
